Skin deep
I came across a very valuable resource today. It's the Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database and it has a wealth of information! You can type in any beauty product name and it will bring up the stats, ingredients (and whether these ingredients are good for you or not) and a rating of just how dangerous the product is for human use. It's quite amazing. You really need to check it out for yourself.
While we're on this topic, I might as well let you know that I've been looking for all-natural cleansers for myself and my family. I feel like my skin is just plain worn out from all the chemicals it's exposed to everyday. Now, I am by no means a fanatic (if there is such a thing), but I am becoming more aware that the stuff I put into (or onto) my body directly affects my health and well-being. So, I have found a few places that sell natural cleansers and you may want to try some of them out.
Lush - this is by far my favorite. They have the most lovely scents and a wide variety and 75% of their products are vegan! You can also buy all their products online and have them shipped! *and here's a little secret: if you go to their store in person, you can ask for a sample of any of their soaps and they'll cut off small portions for you to take home and try! That's what sold me!
The Soap Works - these soaps are very basic and quite reasonably priced, but some of their scents are a little offensive, in my opinion (especially the carbolic soap - bleh). But I do love their chamomile soap and their lavender blue glass soap. You can find these at the Bulk Barn for a couple dollars a bar.
Country Rose Soap Company - these guys have an overwhelming amount of soap scents and types to choose from! Good thing is you can buy them online and have them shipped to your door!
Etsy - Etsy has a whole slew of soaps you can buy! Good thing is you'll find a wide variety of prices and ALL of these soaps are handmade, so you can probably contact the seller for a list of ingredients.
There has never been a better time for us to get our hands on all these beautiful products that are safe and natural. The important thing is to be educated when it comes to ingredients.
I hope this made your skin sigh with relief. I'm gonna go wash my hands now...with chamomile. ;)
